Plugin Pantry is made by a web agency team that looks after WordPress sites for clients. The plugins here started as the ones we kept rebuilding: a small job would need a plugin, the plugin would arrive with a dashboard widget, a banner, a licence prompt and several dozen options, and the small job would end up costing the client more than it saved.

So the standard came first and the plugins came second. Each plugin has a scope written before a line of code, a published list of things it will never do, and a footprint measured on the release zip rather than estimated. When a feature does not fit the standard, the standard wins and the feature is cut, moved to a Pro add-on, or becomes a separate plugin.

The standard is public because it is the part you can hold us to. You can read it in full, and you can check any plugin against it, because the numbers on each plugin page are taken from the same zip you download.
